Electrasem has been recognized by its customers for our
significant investment in sensor manufacturing technologies
over the last 25-plus years. These efforts have resulted
not only in regular productivity improvements, but also
have enhanced the performance of our catalytic bead sensors
for combustible gas detection and our metal-oxide semiconductor
sensors for hydrogen sulfide gas detection.
Catalytic Bead Sensors
Catalytic Bead Sensors
manufactured by Electrasem are highly accurate, feature
long-life and are exceptionally resistant to environmental
contaminants. The sensor design uses two identical beads,
one active, which oxidizes any combustible gas present,
and one glass-coated bead, which is used for reference.
The glass coating
on the reference bead allows it to respond to changes
in temperature, humidity and pressure without responding
to combustible gases, which cannot penetrate the glass
coating. The reference bead serves as a baseline signal,
which can then be compared to the resistance of the active
bead to determine the concentration of gas present.
MOS Sensors
Metal-Oxide Semiconductor
(MOS) Sensors manufactured by Electrasem offer exceptional
performance, reliability and long-life. They are especially
sensitive to H2S gas and remain unaffected
by high concentrations of other gases, such as methane
and hydrogen that are often present in the same areas.
The MOS sensor's operating principle is based on the fact
that the semiconductor will preferentially adsorb H2S
gas, in which the resistance across its surface is reduced
at a rate proportional to the concentration of gas present.
This signal is fed to the controller where it is linearized
to provide alarm outputs or digital display readings.
Electrochemical Cell H2S
Sensors Electrochemical
cell H2S sensors are designed with a sensing
electrode, a counter electrode and a reference electrode
separated by an electrolyte reservoir. Gas contacting
the sensor diffuses through a capillary diffusion barrier,
which controls the amount of gas entering the sensor.
In an electrochemical cell, the gas reacts at the surface
of the sensing electrode by either oxidation or reduction.
Reactions are catalyzed by electrodes matching the specific
gas.
